SportMetrika
A project by Mark Johnson and Matthew Johnson

Mark E. Johnson, Ph.D.
Mark Johnson has been pioneering sports analytics for over 35 years, starting with NFL Combine data analysis for the Dallas Cowboys in 1989. After working on MLB's Commissioner's Initiative with Rob Manfred and John Henry in 2003, he became one of the first full-time analysts hired in Major League Baseball. As Baseball Analyst for the 2004 Cardinals (World Series runners-up), he helped establish how professional sports organizations use data. Co-founder of SportMetrika, his vision has always been to bridge cutting-edge mathematical tools with sports decision making. Mark is also an accomplished ultra-endurance cyclist preparing for RAAM 2026, where he applies the same analytical rigor to human performance.
Along with his brother Matthew, he contributed to "Baseball Hacks" by Joe Adler, helping to democratize baseball data analysis. His endorsement of the book reflects this passion:
"The game was born in the 19th century, but the passion for its analysis continues to grow into the 21st. In Baseball Hacks, Joe Adler not only demonstrates that the latest data-mining technologies have useful application to the study of baseball statistics, he also teaches the reader how to do the analysis himself, arming the dedicated baseball fan with tools to take his understanding of the game to a higher level."
